PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect the frosting of an outdoor side heat exchanger from the indoor side by detecting a difference in the temperature by indoor air flow quantities on the coolant inlet side and the central portion of a pipeline of an indoor side heat exchanger. CONSTITUTION:Pipeline temperature detecting elements 6 and 6' are mounted on the coolant inlet side and the central portion of a pipeline of an indoor side heat exchanger 3, respectively. By measuring a temperature difference t1-t2 between an inlet pipeline temperature t1 and a central portion pipeline temperature t2, it is possible to make judgement as to the defrosting operation of an outdoor side heat exchanger 5. In this case, the values of the inlet pipeline temperature t1' and the central portion pipeline temperature t2' are higher than t1 and t2, respectively, whereas the value of the temperature difference t1'-t2' is smaller than the temperature difference t1-t2. Therefore, by varying the value of the temperature difference to be compared in accordance with the indoor air flow quantity, a further proper and sure judgement of the defrosting operation can be made.
