<p>4-Hydroxy 2-methyl N-(2-pyridyl) 2H-thieno (2,3-e) 1,2-thiazine 3-carboxamide 1,1-dioxide (Tenoxicam), for use as an anti-inflammatory agent, is made by (a) protecting the OH gp. in 4-hydroxy 2-methyl 2H-thieno (2,3-e) 1,2-thiazine 1,1-dioxide 3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester by reaction with benzyl chloride in presence of K2CO3 and the iodide of tetrabutyl-2-methyl 2H-thieno (2,3-e)-1,2-thiazine 1,1-dioxide 3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester; (b) hydrolysing the prod. with KOH in aa. methanol medium to form the corresp. carboxylic acid; and (c) treating the sulphonyl chloride at 10-30 deg.C, in pyridine or triethylamine, so that the anhydride formed reacts in situ with 2-amino pyridine. ..ER ALL</p> |
