The invention relates to a transmission for motor vehicles, which contains a main transmission and a planetary transmission. The aim of the invention is to simplify the design and the manufacture and to increase the compactness. According to the invention, the external gear 14 of the planetary transmission can be coupled to the first output end 21 of an external output hollow shaft 37 of the step-change transmission or to the transmission housing 13. The planetary transmission is arranged coaxially with respect to the hollow output shaft of the step-change transmission. Mounted in the hollow output shaft 37 is a connecting shaft 17, one end of which is fixed to the sun gear 18 of the planetary transmission and the other end of which can be connected either to the housing or to the hollow output shaft 37. Part of the main transmission can be the two-stage reduction of the division of the transmission stages. The invention can be used, in particular, in trucks and special vehicles. <IMAGE>
