PURPOSE:To lower the Curie temp. of a photomagnetic recording film consisting of a rare earth transition metal and to increase the Kerr rotating angle and Faraday rotating angle thereof by adding at least >=1 kinds of elements among Pb, Bi and Sn into said film. CONSTITUTION:The amorphous photomagnetic recording layer is formed by adding at least >=1 kinds of the elements among Pb, Bi and Sn to the rare earth transition metal which is the main compsn. of said film and consisting the film of the compsn. expressed by the formula and impurities. The material which can make the Curier temp. lower rather than higher and can make the Kerr rotating angle and Faraday rotating angle larger than the Kerr rotating angle and Faraday rotating angle of the rare earth transition metal, i.e., the main compsn. for the above-mentioned film is thus obtd.
