NOVEL AGENT FOR INHIBITING CANCER METASTASIS

PURPOSE:To provide a cancer metastasis inhibiting agent containing a specific N-acetylneuraminic acid derivative, capable of effectively inhibiting the metastasis activity of cancer and having low toxicity to enable long-term administration with little side effect. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula I is used as an agent for inhibiting metastasis of cancer. The compound of formula I is active to inhibit the activity of serial transferase existing on the inhibit the activity of serial transferase existing on the surface of cancer cell and has excellent metastasis inhibiting effect. The effect can be improved by producing a freeze-dried preparation from the compound of formula I and a stabilizer and using the preparation as an intravenous injection. The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting the compound of formula II with the compound of formula III by Koenigs-Knorr reaction, treating the resultant alpha-compound of formula IV in a solvent such as methanol at room temperature for 30min-2hr and hydrolyzing the product with NaOH.
