PURPOSE:To attain neutral black display and half tone display removing hue by setting up the double refraction anisotropy of a twisted nematic liquid crystal light valve and the thickness of a cell by a specific inequality. CONSTITUTION:The double refraction anisotropy DELTAn of twisted nematic liquid crystal and the thickness (d) between bases are set up within the inequality. The titled device is constituted of three twisted nematic liquid crystal light valves 7-9 obtained on the basis of said inequality. Light beams radiated from a halogen lamp 1 equipped with an elliptically spherical mirror are converted into collimated light beams by a collimator lens 2 and the collimated light beams are separated into red(R), green(G) and blue(B) components by a color separating dichroic prism 4 through a hot wire reflecting filter 3 and made incident upon light valves 9, 7, 8 for the R, G and B components. Respective light valves 7-9 are arranged so that bases with light shielding layers are turned to the incident light beams side. After forming an image by the light valves 7-9, the colors are synthesized by a dichroic prism 6 for color synthesis and the synthesized color is projected on a screen through a projection lens 10. |
