PURPOSE:To obtain an austenitic stainless steel excellent in vary low temp. characteristics after cold working and aging, by specifying a composition consisting of C, Si, Mn, Ni, Cr, Mo, Nb, N, and Fe and compositional relations among them. CONSTITUTION:The austenitic stainless steel has a composition consisting of, by weight, <=0.02% C, 0.1-1.0% Si, 0.1-2.0% Mn, 7-15% Ni, 12-20% Cr, 0.5-2.5% Mo, 0.01-0.18% Nb, 0.05-0.25% N, and the balance Fe with inevi table impurities and satisfying Ni+0.5M+30C+30N>2/3 (Cr+Mo+Si-8) and further containing, if necessary, 0.001-0.1% of one or more elements among Ca, Ce, and Zr. This steel is excellent in ductility and toughness and has high strength at very low temp. after cold working and ageing.
