999,064. Sealing joints in concrete structures. ASPHALT - BITUMEN - ONDERNEMING "ASHBITON" N.V. April 6, 1962 [April 11, 1961], No. 13288/62. Heading E1V. A joint in a concrete road or the like is sealed by inserting in the joint a strip comprising elastic cellular material compressed and enclosed in a tube-like covering of flexible, moisture resistant, sheet material and subsequently opening the covering longitudinally to allow the inner strip to expand. Suggested materials for the inner strip are foamed polyvinyl compounds, polyurethane and viscose products and natural or synthetic rubber and are preferably impregnated with bitumen or a plastics material such as polyisobutylene with similar physical characteristics. The covering is preferably of polyethylene film or some similar material which can be opened by heating with a burner. To enable the inaccessible side of the strip in deep joints to be opened also a bearing wire or an electric heating element may be embedded in that side of the covering. The sealing element may form part of the shuttering during pouring of the concrete. Specification 800,835 is referred to.
|
