<p>PURPOSE:To reduce the tilt angle of liquid crystals to a base surface by giving small vibration to at least one of a rubbing material and an orienting film at a specified cycle in the prescribed direction to execute rubbing treatment. CONSTITUTION:A base plate 1 coated with a 50-100nm thick polyimide orienting film on an indium oxide electrode is brought into contact with a rubbing material 3 made of leather, cloth, paper, or the like, and provided with plural protuberances on the surface by moving the plate 1 in the direction A. Plural grooves are formed on the face of the plate 1 at that time, because the material 3 is vibrated in the direction C in the cycle of 10 times per sec. A liquid crystal compsn. consisting of phenylcyclohexane and phenyldioxane is filled on an orienting film. As a result, since the tilt angle of the liquid crystals to the plate 1 becomes very small, voltage versus transmittance characteristics and display performance are enhanced.</p> |
