PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin being colorless and transparent and having high refractive index and excellent heat resistance and suitable for a cast molding method by polymerizing itaconic acid ester shown by a specific formula or copolymerizing itaconic acid ester and a comonomer. CONSTITUTION:The titled resin is obtd. by polymerizing itaconic acid ester shown by formula I, or by copolymerizing itaconic acid ester and the comonomer. In formula I, A1 and A2 are same or the different with each other, at least one of the group selected from the group shown by formula II or R is an aromatic group, R is 1-12 C an alkyl, an arkenyl or 3-12 C a cycloalkyl group. In the formula II, X is halogen atom, (m) is 0 or an integer of 1-5. The titled resin has high refractive index and is colorless and transparent, and has a small shrinkage factor in a molding, and excellent heat-resisting property. The titled resin is available for an optical field of an optical element such as a spectacle lens and a camera lens and a resin plate having a high refractive index, etc.
