PURPOSE:To perform an accurate test while ironing is applied to a cable, by allowing a truck to run at a constant running speed while constant tension is applied to the cable. CONSTITUTION:A guide means 16 is engaged with one side of a cable 12 to which ironing must be applied and consists of a pair of ironing imparting guide members 14, 14' movable in a freely advancing and retracting state with respect to the cable 12 and arranged so as to provide an definite interval therebetween. A tension applying means 20 comprises suspended wts. 18 for imparting definite tension to at least one end of the cable 12. The members 14, 14' are retracted upwardly to connect the cable 12 to be tested to the means 20 and the cable 12 is engaged with the metal wheel 22 of a self-propelling truck 24 and, thereafter, the members 14, 14' are allowed to fall until engaged with the cable 12 and set. When the truck 24 is allowed to run itself toward an arrow R in this state, the truck 24 moves at a constant speed and the left-hand wt. 18 rises by the ironing resistance of the cable 12 while the right-hand wt. falls and the truck 24 stops at the point of time when the right-hand wt. is contacted with a floor to impart the first ironing to the cable 12. Next, the truck 24 is moved to an arrow L and the second ironing is imparted to the cable 12 in the same way.
