In the electric storage heater, the housing (1) has, in a cool place on the front side, an opening which aligns with a blow-out opening (2) and which optionally can be closed by a detachably fastened screen (4) or a detachably fastened cover. The cover is provided on its front side with an adjusting knob and can also be provided with a switch and an indicating light. On the rear side, the cover bears a room thermostat which can be adjusted by the adjusting knob. The arrangement is easy to convert if a room thermostat is desired in the heater. The heater is normally equipped with the screen. <IMAGE>
