PURPOSE:To discriminate the open and close states of a cover, by a method wherein a carriage is driven to a direction opposite to the origin position by closing power source to move a body to be detected to a undetectable position spaced apart from a detection means and the output signal of the detection means is discriminated in this state. CONSTITUTION:In such a state that a carriage is present at the origin position and a cover is closed, a carriage origin detecting arm presses a piece 18 to be moved and a detection switch 17 comes to a closed state or a cover open state detecting arm 22 sets an operation lever base end part 20a to an OFF side against a tensile spring 21. When a power source is closed in this state, CPU23 moves a carriage to undetectable printing area by a carriage driving mechanism 9 on the basis of the detection signal from a switch 17. Whereupon, because the arm 15 releases the pressing of the piece 18 to be moved, the switch 17 comes to an open state to discriminate that the cover is in an open state. In such a state that the carriage is present at the origin position and the cover is in the open state, when the power source is closed, the pressing on the piece 18 to be moved is released but it is discriminated that the cover is in the open state on the basis of the signal of the switch 17 caused by the spring 21. |
