PURPOSE:To obtain a water proof optical fiber cable excellent in hydrotaxis preventing characteristics and having resistance against microorganisms by winding a water absorbing tape around the periphery of a center tension member. CONSTITUTION:The titled cable consists of the tension member 3a, an optical fiber core 1, a buffer layer 17 arranged around the core 1, a press winding tape 18 for an optical fiber cable core collecting all constitutional elements, and a casing 4. The water absorbing tape 19 is wound around the center tension memory 3a and the tape 19, the buffer layer 17 and the core press winding tape 18 are constituted of a material consisting of acrylic group high water absorbing material. When the volume ratio of a space occupied by the water absorbing material to a gap in the cable formed before filling the cable with the water absorbing material is R0(%) and a water absorbing magnification expressed by the weight ratio of the water absorbing material is M(times), the water proof optical fiber cable is designed so that the product MR0 exceeds 300%. |
