PURPOSE:To eliminate the distortion of a picture, and to obtain an accurate picture high in resolution by shifting the timing of picture reading, in a picture input device in which a sensor and a sample relatively move, corresponding to the said relative moving. CONSTITUTION:The sample 4 placed on an X-Y stage 1 is illuminated by an illumination device (not shown in the figure), and the image of it is formed on a one-dimensional sensor 3 by a lens 2. The stage 1 is scanned in the main scanning direction (X-direction) of the sensor 3 and the direction vertical to the scanning direction (Y-direction). The amount of moving is read respectively by X-direction/Y-direction moving-amount detecting devices 5X and 5Y, and an X-Y coordinate value is obtained by a coordinate value counter 6. The output of the counter 6 is supplied to a picture fetching command pulse generator 7. A timing wait circuit 8 generates a fetching command pulse 12 so as to delay the timing of the clock pulse of a driving circuit 9 by a picture fetching command pulse 10.
