PURPOSE:To enable driving of printing operation employing an ink sheet for multi-color printing and erasing operation with a single control member by enabling the mounting of any one of a collectable ink sheet for recording a bit of erasable information or an ink sheet which can be recorded selectively with one of a plurality of colors at the same recording position. CONSTITUTION:Movement between a position for receiving the heat from a thermal head 29 of a second ribbon 16 mounted on a ribbon plate 12 and a retracting position from said heating position and movement between a position contacting with an ink ribbon 10 or an ink ribbon 16 of the thermal ribbon 29 and a retracting position from said contacting position are performed through rotation of a motor. When a peeling member 30 contacts against the ink ribbon 10, the contacting force of the thermal head 29 against the ribbon 10 is strengthened when compared with normal case. Winding of second ribbon(erasing ribbon) 16 is started and the movement of carriage is started to accelerate the carriage then travel with a constant speed. In order to execute erasing, all dots in the thermal head 29 are heated then the carriage is moved by a distance corresponding to a single character and the heating is completed after the erasing is executed.
