PURPOSE:To improve brightness without dropping color purity by deflecting an electron beam almost vertically at a frequency higher than that of an index signal and causing the beam spot of the electron beam to obliquely cross the stripe of a phosphor. CONSTITUTION:When the electron beam is irradiated to a fluorescent film from the electronic gun, a horizontal deflection yoke 31 and a main vertical deflection yoke 32 normally deflect the electron beam, and an auxiliary vertical deflection yoke 33 almost vertically defects the beam at the frequency the same as or higher than that of the index signal. Then a scan line moves and shifts vertically within the prescribed zone. Accordingly the spot of the electron beam obliquely crosses the stripe of each phosphor, whereby a light emitting area in the same single light emitting area can be increased and brightness can be improved without dropping color purity.
