PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for synthesizing agricultural chemicals, drugs and high polymer compounds in high purity and in high yield, by dinitrating a nucleus halogen-substituted benzene compound and carrying out reduction and dehydrohalogenation by hydrogenation. CONSTITUTION:A uncleus halogen-substituted benzene compound shown by the formula (X is halogen; A and B are H, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy) is nitrated with a mixed acid by a conventional procedure to give a methanedinitrobenzene compound containing a nucleus halogen-substituted group. Then reduction of nitro group to corresponding amino group and dehydrohalogenation of uncleus substituted halogen are carried out by catalytic hydrogenation to give the aimed substance. The hydrogenation is carried out in the presence of a catalyst such as Raney nickel, etc., by adding a caustic alkali in a solvent such as water, methyl alcohol, etc., by introducing hydrogen under pressure while vigorously stirring.
