PURPOSE:To record reliably using a bit of desired color information by varying the relative movement between an ink sheet and a heating position according to a bit of recording information. CONSTITUTION:While traveling in the direction of an arrow Al, a thermal head 25 produces heat from a heating portion 25a according to a bit of image information so as to heat a two color ink ribbon 1. Consequently, second ink layer 3b of the two color ink ribbon 1 is adhered to a recording paper 12. The two color ink ribbon 1 is contacted against the recording paper 12 at a point separated by a distance l in the opposite direction of the arrow Al from the heat producing portion 25a by means of a peeling roller 54. Then the thermal head 25 and the peeling roller 54 move in the direction of the arrow Al while maintaining the distance l, and at the position of the peeling roller 54, the ink ribbon 1 is deflected at a time point t2 after heating or when the heated ribbon 1 is cooled then pulled by the winding force and peeled from the recording paper 12. The time point t2 can be determined on the basis of the moving speed of the thermal head 25 and the distance l.
