PURPOSE:To enhance softening efficiency by supplying water to an ion exchange resin, by mounting water supply and discharge pipes different in a height to the interior of a main body and sealing the main body with the ion exchange resin. CONSTITUTION:When a knob is rotated by 45 deg. to the counterclockwise direction, both end parts of a groove H4 are positioned at a water supply port 21 and a drain port 22, and water supplied is discharged to the outside from the drain port 22. When the knob is further rotated by 45 deg., the water supply port communicates with a connection port through passages H3, H2 and grooves H6, H5'. When the water supply port 21 communicates with a connection port 24 by operating a changeover valve V, water passes through the ion exchange resin bed 1 in a main body 1 from the holes 8 of a supply and discharge pipe 6 from the upper part thereof to the lower part thereof and is passed through the connection port 23 and the drain port 22 communicating therewith from the holes 7 of a drain pipe 5 while softened uniformly and high purity soft water is supplied. When the water supply port 21 is allowed to communicate with the connection port 23 by operating the changeover valve V, water is injected into the main body 1 from the holes 7 of the drain pipe 5.
