PURPOSE:Fresh plant bodies are dried, then rapidly treated with high temperature, under exclusion of air to carbonize the surface of the bodies appropriately with removal of remaining moistures, then a chemical reinforcing agent is applied to give plant bodies stiffly reinforced in three dimensions. CONSTITUTION:(I) Fresh plant bodies are left standing or hung down and kept in a heating oven and dried in a humid heat atmosphere, as the temperature is raised up at a rate of 0.5 deg.C/min or less to 100-130 deg.C until the water content reaches 10-20%, (II) the plant bodies from step (I) are rapidly heat-treated under air exclusion or its ristricted flow, until the bodies are carbonized 30-50vol% to remove the moisture completely, and (III) the dried product is impregnated or coated with a chemical reinforcing agent such as sizing agent, resin, wax, starch, glue or alginate salt so that the bodies are reinforced in three dimensions. In the step II, the temperature in the oven is raised up to 180-350 deg.C within 30min and the level is kept for 1-10hr.
