PURPOSE:To save the useless circuit rental fee by interrupting a circuit opening process when a credit on-line processing is not needed so as to shorten the circuit using time in such a case. CONSTITUTION:When data are supplied from an input part 3 or a scanning part 5, the merchandise are registered and then the total amount of the sold merchandise is calculated. The result of this calculation is displayed on a display part 2. While the circuit opening process is started concurrently with start of the merchandise registering process. Then a credit or non-credit mode is decided. In a non-credit mode the operation is jumped to the next step without carrying out the on-line processing. While an interruption request flag 14 is turned on and at the same time a magnetic card is read to decide the presence of a reading error. If the reading error is detected, the operation is jumped to the following step. While the credit on-line processing is carried out after the circuit opening process is over when no reading error is detected. Then the detailed receipt of sale is printed to complete the operation.
