NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I. USE:An immunoenhancer having low side effect and obtained by bonding sialic acid to a phosphoryl-glucosamine derivative which is an active component of lipid A. PREPARATION:N-acetylneuraminic acid of formula II is benzylated with phenyldiazomethane, etc., to obtain the compound of formula III, which is acetylated by reacting with acetic anhydride in the presence of 4- dimethylaminopyridine. The produced compound of formula IV is dissolved in acetyl chloride, etc., and chlorinated with hydrogen chloride gas to obtain the compound of formula V. The compound is made to react with the compound of formula IV in the presence of mercuric cyanide and mercuric bromide.
