摘要 PURPOSE:To detect immediately the combustion state of an internal combustion engine which is exceeding a stability limit by detecting the quantity of variation of an air-fuel ratio detection signal being larger than a specific value continuously for longer than a specific time. CONSTITUTION:An air-fuel ratio detecting means B detects the air-fuel ratio of a supplied air-fuel mixture from the oxygen concentration in exhaust gas and sends its detection signal to an air-fuel ratio control means C to control the quantity of fuel, thereby controlling the air-fuel ratio. Further, the detection signal of the air-fuel ratio detecting means B is sent to a variation quantity arithmetic means E and a variation quantity judging means F judges whether the quantity of variation calculated by the means E is larger than the specific value or not. Then when the quantity of variation is larger than the specific value continuously for longer than the specific time, a stability limit deciding means G decides that the combustion state of the internal combustion engine A exceeds the stability limit and performs control for increasing the stability immediately.
