PURPOSE:To prevent the marginal part of an original from being enlarged and to eliminate that a picture is recorded from the edge of a recording paper by modifying the start address of the writing of a picture data into an output buffer circuit corresponding to an enlargement/reduction processing. CONSTITUTION:An analog picture signal read by a picture reading means 60 such as CCD, is converted to a 16-gradation level picture data by an A/D converter 61. This picture data is shade corrected by a shading correction circuit 62, supplied to a picture processing circuit 2, and subjected to a real time enlargement/reduction processing with a specified magnification. Thus processed picture data is binary-coded by a binarization circuit 23 based on a threshold data stored in a threshold table 69, and supplied to an output buffer circuit 90. The circuit 90 is a circuit to control the timing of the read and the write of the picture data, and the timing is modified corresponding to the enlargement/ reduction processing.
