PURPOSE:To easily obtain a stable para oriented state by providing the 1st circuit which applies an image signal and the 2nd circuit which applies an AC voltage for para orientation and sharing matrix electrodes of a liquid crystal panel. CONSTITUTION:The 1st circuit 1 and the 2nd circuit 2 are provided as peripheral circuits of the liquid crystal panel 3 which uses ferroelectric liquid crystal; and the 1st circuit 1 is used as a matrix electrode driving circuit for the image signal and the 2nd circuit 2 is used as an AC voltage driving circuit for para orientation. Then, the 2nd circuit 2 applies the AC voltage to the ferroelectric liquid crystal. Then, capacitors 9 are connected in series with cable runs which connect terminals of the respective matrix electrodes, a scanning signal side driving circuit 11, and an information signal side driving circuit 12, and pull- down resistances 10 to the ground are connected to other cable runs connected in parallel to said cable runs. Consequently, the para oriented state of liquid crystal molecules is stabilized by the simple circuit constitution to improve display characteristics.
