The invention concerns a harvesting device which comprises a rotor 11 which is mounted on a mobile frame 12 and which has a series of transverse cutting edges 14 which are each formed by a number of outwardly directed teeth 15 transverse to the direction of movement of the device through the plant material which is to be harvested. Each tooth 15 is tipped, with side edges diverging away from the tip. The rotor rotates at high speed and the chambers project in between the harvester and collect the plant stalks between adjacent pairs of teeth, with seeds and seed shells or other desired plant parts being freed from the stalks. In the join between two adjacent teeth 15, there is an enlarged opening 21 which facilitates the harvesting and makes it possible for the stripped stalks to escape from the chambers. <IMAGE>
