PURPOSE:To obtain the titled coal tar economically, by adding a specific solvent to coal tar, separating a solvent-insoluble component, blending a mixture of a solvent-soluble component and the solvent or the residue obtained by distilling away the solvent from the mixture with coal to be fed to coke oven and carbonizing the blend. CONSTITUTION:Coal tar obtained by a coke oven is blended with a solvent (e.g. carbon disulfide, etc.) having the same or less solubilizing power as that of benzene, toluene or xylene, a solvent-insoluble component is separated, (i) a mixture of a solvent-soluble component and the solvent and/or (ii) the residue obtained by distilling away the solvent from the mixture is blended with coal to be fed to coke oven and the blend is carbonized by coke oven to give the aimed heavy coal tar.
