PURPOSE:To improve recovery efficiency of sensible heat of gas evolved during coal carbonization, by setting a two-position on-off valve to make a heating medium of a low flow rate and of a high flow rate flow in the channel of the heating medium, detecting carbon combustion and making the heating medium of large flow rate flow through a riser. CONSTITUTION:In order to recover sensible heat evolved from a coke oven by passing a heating medium to a heat exchanger tube attached to a riser 2 of a coke oven 1, a heating medium channel 5 is equipped with a two-position on-off valve 10 to make the heating medium of high flow rate and of low flow rate flow. Then, carbon combustion is detected by a thermometer 9 set at the outlet of a piping of the heating medium of each riser 2 and the heating medium of high flow rate is sent to the riser 2 in carbon combustion to improve heat recovery of gas evolved from the coke oven.
