PURPOSE:To reduce effect of UV rays on a silver halide photosensitive material, and to protect its photographic characteristics effectively from effects of UV rays, and from ill effect during its photographic processing, by adding a UV absorbing compd. having a specified general formula. CONSTITUTION:The present UV absorbing compd. is represented by the shown formula in which R1 is H, alkyl, or aryl; R2 is H, alkyl, or aryl; R3 is alkyl substd. by a hydrophilic group; A, B are each -CN, -COOR5, or -COR8; R5, R8 are each alkyl or aryl. A combination of A and B giving the max. absorption is selected by optionally changing their combination. It is added to the surface protective layer or a blue sensitive silver halide emulsion layer. An amt. of it to be added is generally regulated to >=0.01mg/dm<2>, when >=2 kinds are added, the total amt. is within such a range, and it is dissolved in water, or in an org. solvent soluble in water, or their mixture, and added to a coating soln. contg. a hydrophilic colloid for forming said constituent element layer. |
