A capacitor element for a power capacitor comprises first and second metal foils wound together with layers (13,14,15,16) of solid polymer film dielectric sepg. the wound metal foils. Adjacent each end of the element, one longitudinal metal foil has its edge (20,19) unfolded along (a major part of) its length, and the other foil has its edge folded (17,18) longitudinally throughout its length, the edges being inside the longitudinal edges of the polymer films and exposed to the ends of the capacitor element. At least one current tab strip (25) contacts each metal foil as separate elements, protruding from the ends of the capacitor element. The edges of the metal foil not contacted by a tab are longitudinally folded in the region adjacent that tab, so each tab is surrounded by foiled metal foils. The power capacitor including at least one capacitor element as above is claimed, pref. including a number of the capacitor elements. Capacitor element has improved partial discharge properties, hence improved performance and reliability, with no or negligible increase in thickness. . 2/6 |
