PURPOSE:To increase the strength of a slidable contact surface part by carrying out the press molding between the expandable graphite particles and metal nets in two stages. CONSTITUTION:The expandable graphite particles 19 and metal nets 16 are preparatorily press-molded between the undersurface of the first male mold 25 and the inside surface of the first molding space 24 formed onto the first female mold 23. The density of the metals nets 16 is the material 22 obtained through the preparatory molding is made larger on the upper side and less on the lower side by the portion of the upper part of the metal net 16 exposed over the expandable graphite particle 19 before the preparatory molding. Then, the material 22 is reversed up and down, and is inserted into the second molding space 27 formed onto the second female mold 26. The press molding in the second stage is carried out by using a sufficiently large pressure, and a sealing member 7 is finished. With such constitution, the strength of the slidable contact surface part can be increased.
