PURPOSE:To realize the miniaturization and the cost down of a device, by providing a picture selecting means which disables an original picture stored at the time of the detection for a failure in the adherent state between a scanning part and an original platen in a scanning time by an adherent state detecting means which detects the contact state between them. CONSTITUTION:When a scanning is performed in a state where a scanning part 2 is brought into contact with the upper plane of an original platen 3, all of the contents of a counter A ought to go to the total number of directions vertical to the scanning direction of an umbra 5c. However, when some failure exists in the contact state between the scanning part 2 and the upper plane of the original platen 3, the umbra 5c is not read correctly, and the content of the counter A goes to a value less than the total number of dots vertical to the scanning direction. Then, the goodness of the contact state can be judged setting whether the content of the counter A exceeds a set value (k) as a rule of thumb. In this way, the reading state of the original picture can be judged by the goodness of the reading state of a check pattern, and a printing work can be performed only when the reading state is in a good condition, and an equidistance holding member to maintain an interval between the scanning part and an original strictly is made unnecessary, thereby, the device can be miniaturized.
