PURPOSE:To improve durability by incorporating magnetic powder deposited with an aluminum compd. having the strongest diffraction peak at 2.80Angstrom in X-ray diffraction into a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic powder which is deposited with the aluminum compd. having the strongest diffraction peak at 2.80Angstrom in X-ray diffraction and has the relatively hard surface is incorporated into the magnetic layer, by which the strength of the magnetic layer is thoroughly intensified and the durability of the magnetic recording medium obtd. by using this kind of the magnetic powder is thoroughly improved. More specifically, the magnetic powder deposited with the aluminum compd. having the strongest diffraction peak at 2.80Angstrom in X-ray diffraction is increased in hardness as the particle surfaces are coated with the hard aluminum compd. and since such magnetic powder itself acts as a polishing agent, the durability is thoroughly improved without decreasing output if the magnetic layer is formed by using such magnetic powder.
