PURPOSE:To eliminate dispersion of wear of a magnetic head of each channel by making the radius of curvature in the direction of head scanning of magnetic heads of both ends having large tape contact pressure large and making radius of curvature in the direction of head scanning of interposed magnetic heads having small tape contact pressure small. CONSTITUTION:The radius of curvature of magnetic heads 11, 14 on both ends of 4-channel magnetic head is set to R1, The radius of curvature of magnetic heads 12, 13 between them is set to R2(<R1). That is, the radius of curvature of magnetic heads on both ends is made larger than the radius of curvature in the direction of head scanning of magnetic heads between them. Thus, by making the radius of curvature of magnetic heads on both ends large, wear of magnetic head on the ends where tape contact pressure is large is lessened, and wear of all magnetic heads becomes nearly uniform.
