PURPOSE:To satisfy an operational demand at a low temperature without increasing the size of a heat exchanger by selecting an intermittent operational mode of operating for a long period of time when a detected room temperature is high and selecting an intermittent operational mode of operating for a short period of time when a detected room temperature is low. CONSTITUTION:Control means for controlling the compressor of a freezing cycle is operated by inputting therein signals from a room temperature detector, a target temperature setter, and an operation selecting switch. The control means comprises thermostat operating means for controlling the compressor so as to bring the room temperature near to a preset temperature, intermittently operating means not based on the preset temperature, memory means for storing the detected temperature of a room temperature detecting portion at the time of starting the operation, and selecting means for changing over the thermostat operating means and intermittently operating means. The intermittently operating means determines an operation time length in accordance with the memory room temperature of the memory means. When the stored room temperature is high, the control unit is operated in an intermittent mode in which the operation time is lengthened so as to increase the operation factor of the compressor when the stored room temperature is high, and the control unit is operated in an intermittent mode for shortening the operation time of the compressor so as to lower the operation factor when the stored room temperature is low.
