The invention relates to vane pumps. The improved vane pump according to the invention is basically characterised in that each vane 8 has at least one passage 18 passing fully through it in the plane of rotation of the rotor, whose wall 19 situated on the shaft 4 side of the rotor is approximately tangential to the perimeter of the rotor when the vane 8a is in its furthest radial position from the said shaft.
