The hanging rail consists of a tubular metal element whose cross- section is elongated, preferably oval, and whose ends are supported by hanging means. According to the invention, an integral part 10, having a projecting fixed journal 6, and a cartridge 11, having a journal 7 which can be retracted by axial sliding against the action of a spring 17 which causes it to project, are fitted and secured respectively on the two ends of the tubular element 1, the retractable journal 7 being fitted with an actuating finger 19 passing through a cutout 20 in the tubular element and the two journals being intended for being engaged in the holes of the abovementioned suspension means. This dismountable rail can be used in particular to fit out exhibition stands, stores, etc. <IMAGE>
