PURPOSE:To provide the titled furnace capable of heat treating strip metal at high temp. without causing surface fault or thermal deformation therein, by floating and supporting heat treated strip metal with fluid pressure floating apparatus provided between furnace bodies composed with a metal tube set horizontally. CONSTITUTION:The metal tube 2 is horizontally set in an outer cylinder 1 to be outer wall to heat treating furnace of the invention. Heating zones 4a, 4b and a soaking zone 4c are provided corresponding respectively to combustion chambers 3a-3c formed between the cylinder 1 and the tube 2, and respective heating burners are provided in respective chambers 3a-3c. Floaters 7 of fluid pressure floating apparatus are set between the zones 4a and 4b, 4b and 4c, respectively. Consequently, since the strip to be passed in furnace is floated and supported with the floater 7, surface fault such as pick up flaw and deformation are not caused in heated and softened strip S, and satisfactory annealing treatment can be performed by surely sealing atmosphere at respective parts in the furnace.
