PURPOSE:To enable a printing head to be automatically returned to a returning position when a correcting command is stopped, by providing a word correction stopping controlling means for outputting to a printing mechanism a control signal for moving the head based on an output from a correction-controlling means when a word-correcting command signal is received. CONSTITUTION:When a correcting a misprinted word, a WORD OUT key 40 is operated to output a word-correcting command signal to a CPU 60. Based on a correction control program, the printing position of the first character of the misprinted word is detected by using data supplied from a current-position memory 104 and a printing data memory 108. After moving a thermal head 5 to the position of the first character, overprinting on the misprinted word is carried out to sequentially correct the characters of the misprinted word. When a WORD OUT STOP key 126 is operated during the movement of the head 5 to the detected first character position of the misprinted word, the head 5 is moved to an original printing position at which it has been located before the above movement. When the key 126 is operated during correction of the characters from the first position of the word, the head 5 is moved to the first position of the word. |
