PURPOSE:To ensure stable operation without causing the difference in level and the rust to a collector ring even if the axial portions of the collector ring and a collecting brush are deviated, by slidingly getting into contact with the collector ring in arranging an insulated brush on the axially outside of the collecting brush. CONSTITUTION:In a current collector of a rotary electric machine, aside from a collecting brush 2 arranged corresponding to a collector ring 1, an electrically insulated brush holder 4 is provided, into which an insulated carbon brush 5 is inserted. This insulated carbon brush 5 will incur only a mechanical abrasion loss to the collector ring 1. By the sliding action of this brush 5 the sliding limits of the collector ring 1 keeping contact with the brush 5 is the same as it is ordinarily used. As the collector ring 1 moves in the axial direction and even if the contact positions of the collecting brush 2 and collector ring 1 may change, a good contact is still obtained, because the limits held as a sound sliding surface by the brush 5 will move accordingly. If the brush 5 comes into contact with a difference in level and with the rusted portion of the collector ring 1, no overheating, etc. will be caused as the current does not flow through it, so that stable operation can be performed.
