PURPOSE:To apply appropriate pressure to a plate group and to obtain a plate group whose oxygen absorbing reaction is not disturbed and whose automated production is easy by using a perforated heat-shrinkable tube and covering the plate group from the upper end to the lower end with the tube, then shrinking the tube. CONSTITUTION:A plate group is covered with a heat-shrinkable tube from the upper end to the lower end, and accommodated in a container made of a synthetic resin film. An electrolyte is retained only in positive and negative plates 1, 2 and a separator 6. Lead terminals connected to the lugs 1', 2' of the positive and negative plates 1, 2 are drawn out from an opening of the container, and the opening is melt-bonded to produce a sealed lead-acid battery. Since holes 4 are perforated in the tube, oxygen generated in the positive plate 1 during charge comes in contact with the negative plate 2 through holes 4, and is absorbed in the negative plate 2. Since the plate group is appropriately compressed and absorption reaction is smoothly performed in the holes, good charge-discharge performance can be obtained in spite of using the thin container. The insertion of the plate group into the tube is performed at one time and automated production is easy. |
