PURPOSE:To obtain a functional resin composition excellent in heat resistance, reactivity, etc., and useful as a resin modifier, a crosslinking agent or the like, by dissolving a guanamine and a diamine in a solvent and copolycondensing the monomers by heating through elimination of ammonia. CONSTITUTION:A guanamine of the formula (wherein X is alkyl, aralkyl, aryl or the like), e.g., acetoguanamine, and a diamine (e.g., p-phenylenediamine or diaminodiphenyl ether) are dissolved in a solvent (e.g., N-methylpyrrolidone). This solution is subjected to copolycondensation by heating through elimination of ammonia to obtain the purpose functional resin composition having a structure in which a triazine ring is bonded linearly with a diamine residue through an -NH- group. The copolycondensation can be promoted by adding an organic or inorganic acid (e.g., acetic anhydride or p-toluenesulfonic acid) to the reaction mixture.
