The grinding machine is for longitudinally extending workpieces (1) with axially spaced machining points, esp. the cams (3) and bearing journals of an i.c. engine camshaft. It comprises a work drive (6) spindle (4) and a bed (5) with the appropriate number of tool holders on respective slide carriages (12) which are guided in a direction parallel to the workpiece axis and movable by corresponding positioning motors (10). - The carriage guideway is formed by at least two, pref. four, threaded spindles (9), which are non-rotatably secured to the machine frame, and engage sets of threaded nuts (13) rotatable by the positioning motors, pref. via tooth belts (14).
