PURPOSE:To measure the storage amount of a storage tank with high accuracy by measuring the height of the surface of granules in the tank at plural points. CONSTITUTION:Wires 3 are rewound by respective elevation devices 2 to lower and stop an ultrasonic sensor 4 anchored to the wires 3 at an optional position. The horizontal position of the ultrasonic sensor 4 is calculated by inputting the detection signal of a wire rewinding quantity detecting device to an arithmetic part 7. The ultrasonic sensor 4 sends an ultrasonic wave to the surface of a granule in a silo bin 1 to detect the distance to the surface, and also inputs its detection signal to the arithmetic part 7 through a receiver 9 as a radio wave signal. Further, the detection signal of the wire rewinding quantity detecting device is also inputted to the arithmetic part 7 to compute the height from the peak part of the silo bin 1 to the surface x1 of the granule 8. Then, the arithmetic part 7 computes a next measurement position x2 and moves the ultrasonic sensor 4 to the next measurement position, so that the same operation is repeated.
