PURPOSE:To shorten the quiescent time at the generation of spark by a method wherein a first and a second switching means to form a first and a second circuits, each of which contains a primary coil through a capacitor, a bridge type rectifier circuits and the like when turned ON, are provided. CONSTITUTION:A DC power source 1, a capacitor 4, an ignition coil 9 having a primary coil 9a and a secondary coil 9b and bridge type rectifier circuits 5-8, which are connected to the primary coil so as to supply rectified currents in the primary coil, are provided. In addition, when a switching means 2 is turned ON, a first circuit, which contains the primary coil through the DC power source, the capacitor and bridge type rectifier circuits 6 and 7, is formed. Further, when a switching means 3 is turned ON, a second circuit, which contains the primary coil through the capacitor and bridge type rectifier circuits 5 and 8, is formed. Furthermore, a switching controlling means outputs control signals, which alternately put the means 2 and 3 in ON state on the basis of ignition signals given from outside.
