An organopolyarylsilane soluble in organic solvents, of which an aromatic segment mainly containing an aromatic fused ring structure derived from pitch soluble in organic solvents as a skeletal portion and an organosilane segment are bound to each other at random through Si-C linkage groups. SiC-C type continuous inorganic fibers produced by spinning the organopolyarylsilane, making it infusible, and baking at high temperatures in an inert atmosphere, which have excellent heat resistance, oxidation resistance, and conductivity, is also disclosed. This organopolyarylsilane can be obtained efficiently in a high yield by reacting in a gas phase a low-boiling component produced by thermal decomposition of starting polysilane with a low-boiling fraction contained in pitch and recycling to a liquid phase, thus serving to effectively utilize pitch. The fibers are useful as reinforcements for composite materials, materials for electric or electronic components, heat-resistant materials for space and aircraft industry, structural materials, etc. |
