For a motor-driven heat pump, use is made of an evaporator through which flows the ambient air. Via an evaporator-side pressure or temperature sensor, the sensor signals are supplied to a controller which is in connection with members for changing the quantity of air flowing through the evaporator. As a result, it is possible to adapt the suction pressure to the permissible driving output of the drive motor. Consequently, by changing the quantity of air flowing through the evaporator, the absorption of thermal energy by the evaporator is controlled in a simple way without having to instal throttle members in the refrigeration circuit. The suction pressure is thus adapted in sliding fashion to the existing driving output of the drive motor.
