PURPOSE:To nearly prevent the distance between a guide drum and a tape guide from varying when the tilt angle of a guide drum is varied by arranging shafts which are the fulcra of turning of the guide drum at specific positions in a plane and an elevation. CONSTITUTION:The shafts 30 and 31 which are the fulcra of rotation of the guide drum 10 are on the line connecting the middle point D between points B and C within the winding angle range of the magnetic tape 16 and the center E of the guide drum 10 in the plane view in the axial direction of the drum shaft 15, and positioned within the range based upon the heights H1 and H2 of the upper and lower edges of the magnetic tape 16 at the center C in the elevation. Then, the guide drum 10 slants by an angle phi1 to the vertical axis of the guide drum 10 during normal recording and reproduction, but the tilt angle is varied by an angle varying means 40 at the time of conversion to a special reproduction mode. In this case, the distances (a) and (b) of the guide drum 10 to slanting guide poles 24 and 23 hardly vary.
