The lower part of this fire-lighter block is provided with crossed incisions. The parts remaining between these incisions are shortened and tapered. In the crossing region of the incisions, these parts resemble matches in order to burn immediately upon lighting. Outside the crossing region, they have a tongue-like shape and are arranged radially. Their purpose is to spread the fire on all lateral surfaces of the block. In a side surface of the block there is a deep, vertically extending incision. Its function is to divide the mass of wood and to intensify the supply of oxygen as well as to conduct the spent gases away by means of the chimney effect produced during combustion.
